Chiang Mai provides a refreshing change of pace. Not as large or as busy as
Bangkok, it has a simple charm all its own. Lots of interesting things to do and to
see. These are some of my first images of the city. From Chiang Mai, I took a
side trip into the mountains to trek, ride elephant-back and raft. Click "The Trek" to see how it went. Also, see Y-Project for trip to Doi Inthanon National Park and highest spot
in Thailand.

A welcome sign (the ATM part).
I'd be broke without them. |

Another welcome sign.
Internet cafes, service providers and their products have kept me online for the last 4
weeks. It would be extremely difficult to update this web site without them. |

After I paused to admire his work, the umbrella painter (pictured above), offered to paint
something for me. Having nothing available but the pocket on my trousers, he
declared it suitable and immediately began drawing. |
